For the general audience essay, we were instructed to choose a topic of interest to us that requires a call to action. The topic was further explored by choosing a scholarly article of our choosing, and in essence dissecting its main components to show its relevance and importance to our society. In addition to composing a paper, an oral presentation was required to be given as well to iterate the main ideas presented in our papers. This component of the assignment most directly referred to the fifth learning objective, which was to “engage in genre analysis and multimodal composing to explore effective writing across disciplinary contexts and beyond.” By pairing the oral presentation with the paper, multiple forms of expression were explored although it was essentially the same idea being communicated. Nevertheless, this helped to improve our communication skills, which was a hallmark learning experience for me from this assignment.
