Introduction to Lab Report and Poster

To begin, the lab report and poster required us to think of a challenge that either Sophie Davis or all college students face. From there, we had to come up with a variable which might influence this problem and cause differing outcomes for different groups of students. After devising an experiment, surveys regarding these outcomes were distributed and the results of the surveys were recorded in the lab report in the usual scientific format: introduction, methods, results, and discussion. Then, these findings were transferred into a poster format for easier access.

In regards to the learning outcomes in this assignment, the lab report and poster definitely helped develop the fifth learning outcome, which states, “engage in genre analysis and multimodal composing to explore effective writing across disciplinary contexts and beyond.” Not only was the text format explored, but the poster format was also seen for the first time which ties into the multimodal composing referenced in the learning objective. The interplay between multiple genres helped develop effective writing, and allowed me to see a fresh side to science writing.
